Billie eilish - Live at the O2

Billie Eilish's Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour Hits London: A Night of Healing and Heart
On July 11th, London's venue was transformed by Billie Eilish as she performed on her much-anticipated Hit Me Hard and Soft (HMHAS) Tour during six sold-out nights at London's O2. For fans like myself who have been following Billie's journey since 2019, the evening was more than a concert — it was a reminder of how her music saves lives and offers sanctuary for those navigating their darkest moments.
Billie's music has long been a beacon of raw honesty and vulnerability. Her ability to articulate the complexities of pain, anxiety, and self-discovery resonates deeply with her listeners, myself included. Through tracks that explore the delicate balance between strength and fragility, she creates a safe space where fans can confront their emotions without fear or judgment.
My favourite thing about this tour is that Billie and her team managed to transform the O2 and other venues into environmentally friendly spaces by changing the entire menu to plant-based food only, encouraging fans not to drive, and creating a whole diner dedicated just to plant-based food—offering fans a chance to interact and embrace sustainability.
The setlist has a carefully curated blend of both powerful, hard-hitting songs and softer moments. This duality—captured perfectly by the tour's name—highlighted Billie's unique talent for blending intensity with tenderness, striking a chord that hit fans both hard and soft. She played songs like "Guess" and "Oxytoxin," which delivered energetic bursts, while moments of quiet vulnerability in tracks such as "When the Party's Over" allowed the crowd to breathe and reflect for a minute while she looped her voice.
Another one of my most memorable moments was when Billie did the barricade run and touched my hand during it—this was a memory I will forever cherish and can safely say any other Billie fan would feel the same.
Beyond the music, Billie's connection to her audience was wholesome. Specifically, on night two—the one I attended—she sang happy birthday to Jane Horner, one of her backup singers and best friends. She spoke openly about the healing with the power of music, the importance of embracing one's flaws and emotions, and the ongoing situations in the world. It was clear that this was not just a performance but a shared experience of empathy.
The production was minimalist yet immersive, featuring a B-stage and a 360-degree stage to ensure everyone had a good seat and experience in the venue. The moody lighting and subtle visuals from the screens allowed Billie's voice and message to take center stage. Her presence—both commanding and intimate—carried the weight of a generation's struggles and hopes.
For me, and many others, Billie Eilish's music has been a lifeline through moments of heartbreak and uncertainty. Since 2019, her songs have provided comfort and clarity, articulating feelings that often go unspoken. The Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour in London was a powerful celebration of that shared journey—a night where music became healing, and a community was strengthened.
